Modifications to Laws of the Game
U7 League (1st Graders)
4 v 4 Format
Natick Soccer Club is implementing a small sided format for U7 play, as encouraged by US Youth Soccer Association. The reasons for is:
•Ø More playing time per child
•Ø More ball touches
•Ø Aids in developing better technique
•Ø Aids in developing better focus
•Ø Helps create a natural triangle
•Ø Decreases the win/lose perception
•Ø Better use of small U7 goals
Teams will still consist of a full roster with head coach and assistant coach. Roster size is roughly 6-8 players. Rule and format changes are listed below:
GAME RULES/DURATION:
There will be no goalie, and substitutions could occur at any dead ball. Game time will consist of (4) 12 minute quarters with a 2 minute rest between quarters. After the 2nd quarter (or 5 minute half time) the teams will switch sides. Coaches or Assistant coaches would ref and use the whistle stops as learning opportunities as the need arises.
EQUIPMENT:
All players must wear shin guards. U7 plays with size 3 ball.
FIELD DIMENSIONS:
The playing field is no longer than 50 yards long and no wider than by 30 yards , in accordance with US Youth Soccer standards.
NO SLIDE TACKLING. (Players can slide for a ball if there is no contact/intent). Ex. Player can slide for a ball that is going out of bounds, if no other players are around.
THREE YARD RULE:
In all dead ball situations, including kickoffs, defending players must stand at least three yards away from the ball. If the defensive player's goal area is closer than three yards, the ball shall be placed three yards from the goal area in line with the place of penalty.
SIDE LINE OUT OF PLAY/THROW-INS
The ball shall be kicked in from the sidelines. No throw-ins
INDIRECT KICKS:
All dead ball kicks (free kicks, kick-offs) are indirect with the exception of corner kicks. Penalty kicks shall be indirect kicks.
GOAL KICKS:
May be taken from any point on the endline.
KICK-OFF:
Is an indirect kick and may be taken in any direction.

5 v 5 Format
Natick Soccer Club is implementing 5v5 for the U8 program. This is encouraged by US Youth Soccer Association. The reasons for is:

•Ø Helps create more natural triangles
•Ø Decreases the win/lose perception
Teams will still consist of a full roster with head coach and assistant coach. Roster size is roughly 7-10 players. Rule and format changes are listed below:
GAME RULES/DURATION:
Game time will consist of (4) 12 minute quarters with a 2 minute rest between quarters. After the 2nd quarter (or 5 minute half time) the teams will switch sides. Natick Soccer Club will provide referees for each game.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Substitutions are unlimited for the team in possession prior to a kick or throw in. If a team in possession substitutes the opposing team may sub as well. Both teams may make substitutions after a goal or prior to a goal kick. Referee must be notified and signal for the substitutions to come on the field.
NUMBER OF PLAYERS:
The maximum number of players on the field at one time is 5 per team. This is 4 field players and 1 designated as the goalkeeper.

SIDE LINE OUT OF PLAY/THROW-INS
The ball shall be restarted with a throw-in from the spot where it left the field of play.

All dead ball kicks (free kicks, kick-offs) are indirect with the exception of corner kicks. Penalty kicks shall be indirect kicks. All restarts the opponents must be 5 yards from the ball.
GOAL KICKS:
When a ball crosses a goal line and was last touched by an attacker, the game is restarted with a goal kick. Upon restart, a goal kick must pass the designated goalie box line to be playable. Once the ball passes this line the ball can be touched by teammates or opponents.
